It’s 1:00 a.m., and I can’t sleep.
My chest is hitching now and again. There’s a knot in my throat.
Sorrow, then rage. Then fear. Then rage again. And more sorrow.
You have heard this news by now, I have no doubt. Renee Nicole Good, a 37 year old mom, poet, and activist in Minneapolis was murdered in her car by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) savage early yesterday morning. He shot her in the face at point blank range through her windshield.
She likely died instantly, mercifully, though we won’t know because a doctor on scene was denied access to her to provide any emergency medical care that might possibly have saved her life. But probably not. I saw the photo of the blood-soaked airbag in her Honda Pilot.
That’s the sorrow.
Within hours, Homeland Defense Secretary Kristi Noem, in a grotesque spectacle of inhumanity, lied:
“It was an act of domestic terrorism. What happened was our ICE officers were out on an enforcement action. They got stuck in the snow because of the adverse weather that is in Minneapolis. They were attempting to push out their vehicle and a woman attacked them and those surrounding them and attempted to run them over and ram them with her vehicle.”
Posting on his own social media platform, Truth Social, Trump followed up Noem’s lies with his own:
I have just viewed the clip of the event which took place in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is a horrible thing to watch. The woman screaming was, obviously, a professional agitator, and the woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing and resisting, who then violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer, who seems to have shot her in self defense. Based on the attached clip, it is hard to believe he is alive, but is now recovering in the hospital. The situation is being studied, in its entirety, but the reason these incidents are happening is because the Radical Left is threatening, assaulting, and targeting our Law Enforcement Officers and ICE Agents on a daily basis. They are just trying to do the job of MAKING AMERICA SAFE. We need to stand by and protect our Law Enforcement Officers from this Radical Left Movement of Violence and Hate!
J.D. Vance, piling on Noem’s and Trump’s barbarism, posted on Twitter:
“You can accept that this woman’s death is a tragedy while acknowledging it’s a tragedy of her own making.
Don’t illegally interfere in federal law enforcement operations and try to run over our officers with your car. It’s really that simple.”
Anyone with a shred of a fucking soul would know that today was a time to be circumspect, no, reverent at the snuffing out of citizen’s, a human being’s life.
I watched every video of the incident I could find online. No camera angle could be interpreted to show an ICE agent fearing for his life. No agent was run over. Renee, likely panicking while surrounded by heavily armed masked brutes, simply tried to turn her car around and drive away at about walking speed. She was murdered not because she presented any threat to safety, but because she disobeyed.
And her murder received full-throated endorsements from three of the most powerful people on the planet.
Because this is exactly what they want the people of planet Earth, and especially American dissidents, to understand: Disobey us and we will kill you. “It’s really that simple.”
Maybe you’ve been telling yourself that somehow, someone will come and save us from this terrorist regime that controls all three branches of government, law enforcement agencies from coast to coast, and the largest, most ruthless military in the world. I’ve got some bad news for you. Nobody’s coming.
My prediction is that the White House is going to double down on this slaying. More deaths of activists and dissidents, even if publicly receiving an occasional gentle finger-wagging, are going to follow. And I have zero faith the we’re going to be able to vote our way out of this horror.
There is a reason that Trump had black drapes installed over the Declaration of Independence hung on a wall in his freakishly gilded Oval Office. It is this passage, which I hope keeps him up at least some nights:

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said in response to ICE’s explanation of Renee’s killing, “Bullshit.” He then gave voice to the rage I’ve been feeling for hours:
“I have a message for ICE: Get the fuck out of Minneapolis.”
If this administration can ever be deposed, it will start when we allow hopelessness to curdle into rage, and rage into action, and action into open defiance.
