These Terms govern notices and responses submitted to The Second Chance Saloon, a missed-connections feature published by The Greylock Guardian and operated by Puddingstone Media, LLC (the “Guardian,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). They supplement the Guardian’s general website terms. If there is a conflict concerning The Second Chance Saloon, these Terms control.
1. Adults only; your own encounter
You must be at least 18 to submit a notice or response. You may submit only on your own behalf and about an encounter in which you personally participated. Do not impersonate someone else or submit a notice on another person’s behalf.
The feature is intended for a genuine, voluntary missed connection: an encounter, conversation, or shared moment that the other person might recognize. It is not a way to identify a stranger, pursue someone who declined contact, or obtain information about a person from other readers.
2. Submission and publication
Submitting a notice is free. The public message is limited to 40 words. Submission does not guarantee approval, a response, or a connection. An editor reviews notices before publication and may decline, revise, hold, or remove one for editorial or safety reasons. We will not knowingly change the essential meaning of a notice without the writer’s agreement; we may reject a notice rather than rewrite it.
Approved notices appear on the Guardian website and in the print edition of The Greylock Guardian, distributed throughout Berkshire County and nearby regions. Print placement depends on production deadlines and may occur in a later issue; we cannot guarantee a particular issue or distribution point. The published notice includes its headline, message, general place and time, and an identifying code. The private email address supplied with the notice is not intentionally published. Do not put contact details or sensitive information in fields marked for public copy.The online listing ordinarily closes to new responses after about 90 days. Closing the listing does not necessarily erase the notice’s individual webpage, printed copies, screenshots, search-engine copies, or private records. See the Privacy and Safety Notice.
3. Content and conduct rules
Do not use the Saloon to:
- involve, target, solicit, or sexualize a minor;
- arrange commercial sexual services, exploitation, trafficking, or other unlawful activity;
- threaten, stalk, harass, intimidate, coerce, blackmail, or deceive anyone;
- publish a street address, workplace schedule, private contact details, or other information that identifies or exposes another person without their permission;
- sexualize a person doing their job, or pursue someone who has refused contact;
- impersonate another person, post spam or commercial advertising, or link to material meant to bypass editorial review; or
- submit malicious code or materially false or misleading information.
This list is not exhaustive. We may reject or remove material we reasonably consider unsafe, exploitative, unlawful, or unsuitable for the feature. Our review is not an identity check or a guarantee that a notice or participant is safe or truthful.
4. Private responses and voluntary contact
To submit a notice or respond to one, a person must verify the supplied email address through a link sent to that address within 24 hours. An unverified notice does not enter editorial review, and an unverified response is not shown to the notice writer. Each email address may submit only one response to a given notice. After verification, the notice writer receives an email notification and can read the message through a private link. Responses are not individually approved by an editor before the notice writer can read them.
The respondent’s email address is not automatically displayed to the notice writer. The notice writer may send one protected answer to a response through the site. The notice writer can choose to include their own email address in that answer. Either participant may also reveal contact information in the words they choose to send; the Guardian cannot undo a disclosure after the other person receives it.
Email verification shows access to an inbox at that time; it does not establish either participant’s identity or age. A verified message may be saved even if its notification is delayed or not delivered. Do not treat a notification as proof of who sent it.
5. Your judgment and safety
You decide whether, when, and how to continue contact or meet. The Guardian does not supervise later communications or meetings. Do not send money, financial credentials, government identification, intimate images, a home address, or other sensitive information to someone you do not know and trust. Consider meeting in a public place, telling someone your plans, and arranging your own transportation.
If a notice or response concerns you, contact the Guardian. The current Saloon interface does not provide a participant report or block button; we will review requests sent to us, but cannot retract a message already seen or delivered. In an emergency, contact emergency services directly.
6. Private links and email
A notice writer receives an accountless private link to read responses and answer them. Anyone with that link may be able to access the response page. Keep it confidential and contact us if you believe it has been exposed. Email is used for service notifications and the notice writer’s protected answer; email delivery is not guaranteed.
7. Rights in submissions
You retain ownership of the words you submit. You grant Puddingstone Media, LLC a nonexclusive, royalty-free license to store and review a notice; make limited editorial changes consistent with Section 2; publish an approved notice online and, if selected, in print; and retain records as described in the Privacy and Safety Notice. You represent that you have the right to submit your material and that its publication or transmission will not violate another person’s rights.
8. Changes and contact
We may update these Terms prospectively. A material change to the service or its handling of private information should be reflected in the Terms and Privacy and Safety Notice before it takes effect. Questions, removal requests, and safety concerns may be sent to jvelazquez@puddingstone.media.
These Terms are a description of the service and its rules, not a promise that every violation can be detected or prevented.
